Innovate Achieve Lead

United Nations General Assembly in the year 2015 had sent 17 goals that needs to be achieved by the year 2030. Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) focusses on Water and Sanitation which is also a priority area for the Indian Government. Capacity building in this area is an important task and International Water Association (IWA), an association of water professionals around the world predicted the requirement of professional capacity needs in Water and Sanitation. According to IWA “The gap in 2014 was 700,000 individuals, but that gap has widened with the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals.” www.iwa-network.org/iwa-learn.

IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, Netherlands with support from Bill & Melinda Gates foundation has established Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) with partners from Universities in South Asia and Sub Saharan Africa so as to bridge the gap in capacity building. The Global Sanitation Graduate School is a platform to facilitate the development and empower the dissemination of knowledge on sanitation through higher degree programs, online (self-study and instructor-led) courses, face-to-face (on-campus) courses and tailor-made training so that the sanitation challenges can be embraced with deeper insight, advanced knowledge, and greater confidence. BITS Pilani is a partner of GSGS and is offering minor programme in Water and Sanitation apart from higher degree programme in the area of non-sewered sanitation.
