About the Program

The program for Visiting Scholars (VS) or Visiting Researcher (VR) provides specified courtesy titles and privileges to the scholars who visit BITS Pilani Dubai Campus (BPDC) in order to engage in research and exchanges of ideas. There are two designations available:

  • Visiting Scholar (for those already with a Ph.D.)
  • Visiting Researcher (for those pursuing Ph.D.)

Visitors must be sponsored by a faculty member at BPDC who is willing to act as an advisor to the proposed research project, and it is the responsibility of a prospective Visitor to contact appropriate faculty members and arrange for such sponsorship.

Visiting scholars/ researchers are considered guests of the University who may visit for a temporary period (for a few weeks) of up to one year. Program participants are granted basic access to campus resources to fulfil their research objectives. All visiting scholars must provide their own funding. For certain projects, consumable costs may be incurred by participants. The details will be finalized during the discussion with the host faculty. Paid accommodation is available at BPDC hostel subject to availability.

In addition to pursuing their own research objectives while at BPDC, visiting scholars/ researchers are often invited to actively participate in other University activities, such as:

  •  Deliver a formal lecture
  •  Participate in departmental or interdisciplinary program seminars
  •  Engage in formal or informal discussions with graduate students
  •  Undertake collaborative research with faculty or staff
  •  Present guest lectures in classes

Departments and/or faculty hosts contribute to a successful stay of a visiting scholar in many ways, which may include:

  •  Arranging access to computers, libraries, and other facilities, as appropriate
  •  Providing office or carrel space, if available
  • Space permitting, inviting visiting scholars to observe classes and attend faculty workshops and other academic events
